SYNOPSIS

After a harrowing journey, women from Nigeria arrive alone and increasingly young in Italy in search of a better life. From human trafficking to the sexual slavery that awaits them, this choral film offers poignant accounts whose modesty spares us the unbearable. These stories of welcome lead to a broader reflection on migration and otherness, that true encounter with the Other.

Independent screenwriter and director since 1973 and co-founder of the Vidéo Femmes group, Helen Doyle founded her own production company, Tatouages de la mémoire, in 2000. In 2008, she received the first Film Career Grant from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ). Her latest documentary Dans un océan d’images (2013) won a Étoile* from SCAM. In 2015, the book/coffret dedicated to her work, La Liberté de voir — Helen Doyle cinéaste, was published.
