The gig economy is worth over five trillion dollars worldwide, a figure that is constantly growing. Nevertheless, we pay little attention to the stories of these workers, who reveal the inner workings of this technological evolution. Who are these shadowy workers? The Gig Is Up brings their stories to light. Seduced by the promise of independence and control over their working hours and income, women workers around the world have had to face the harsh reality of this economy. Dangerous working conditions, unstable incomes and the precariousness of their activities, which can come to a halt overnight in the event of deactivation or poor grades. Through engaging characters from the four corners of the globe, this documentary makes us realize that the magic of technology we're being sold may just be an illusion.
