Anais Tara­ce­na is a doc­u­men­tary film­mak­er and polit­i­cal sci­ence grad­u­ate. Her first fea­ture film, El silen­cio del topo, was pre­sent­ed in more than 100 fes­ti­vals around the world and received 25 inter­na­tion­al awards. Among these dis­tinc­tions are the Tim Het­her­ing­ton Award at Sheffield Doc/Fest, the Spe­cial Jury Prize at the Jeon­ju Inter­na­tion­al Film Fes­ti­val in South Korea, and the Spe­cial Jury Prize at the Fes­ti­val Inter­na­cional de Cin­e­ma de La Habana, Cuba. She has also direct­ed sev­er­al short and medi­um-length films in Guatemala, the coun­try where she lives and devel­ops her artis­tic work. She is cur­rent­ly film­ing her sec­ond fea­ture, El pal­pi­tar de los vol­canes, while col­lab­o­rat­ing with social orga­ni­za­tions as a direc­tor and cul­tur­al coordinator.
